Where does the money go?

Funds raised from the annual Sam Houston Area Council, BSA Sporting Clays event go to support the Scouting program for  at-risk youth in the Greater Houston Area.

You might ask, what is an at-risk youth?

At-risk youth are young people who are economically disadvantaged, live in single or no-parent homes and/or are growing up in hostile environments such as crime or drug infested neighborhoods. These youth would not have a Scouting experience if it were not for the Sam Houston Area Council.

During the past thirteen years over $1,400,000 has been raised from this event.

This has helped provide the following:

1) Uniforms for at-risk Scouts. This helps them feel part of the total program. The uniform is an equalizer so that everyone looks alike.
2) Long Term Summer Camp experience for at-risk Scouts. This takes place at El Rancho Cima near Wimberly, TX
3) Summer Day Camp for at-risk Cub Scouts. A local day program that build self esteem and character for Scouts in grades 1-5.
4) Scout Leaders that conduct weekly meetings and activities for the Scouts.
5) Transportation for at-risk Scouts (Cub and Boy) to attend special events (baseball games, football games, circus, zoo, etc.) and camping trips.
6) Books and supplies for at-risk Scouts so that they can fully participate in the Scouting program.
7) Camping supplies and material for a Camping Skills program was introduced in 2000 to better serve this program. Trained Scout Leader from across the council provide a weekend camping experience and introduce the Scouts to basic outdoor Scouting skills.

As you can see this fund from the Annual Sporting Clays event is a vital part of the local Scouting program for at-risk youth. If it were not for this program many at-risk youth would go unserved by the Scouting Program.
